Sorachi and Sriracha are two words that sound quite similar but otherwise have little in common. Sorachi Ace is a type of hop that was first cultivated in Japan and has conquered the craft beer world over the past few years. Its flavor profile combines aromatic herbal notes such as coriander, mint and dill with bright, tangy citrus notes. Sriracha, on the other hand, is a hot sauce made from chilies, vinegar, garlic, sugar and salt and is used in Asia (especially in Thailand) as a dipping sauce and to refine all kinds of dishes.
The Dutch brewery De Molen is known for its combinations of unusual flavor components and has outdone itself with its latest creation. Sorachi & Sriracha is an export porter that combines the spice of the exotic hop variety and the fire of the chili sauce with a chocolatey beer.
The unconventional brew flows into the glass in the color of freshly brewed espresso and is crowned with a cap of dense, hazelnut-brown foam. The coffee runs like a mahogany-colored thread through the entire drinking experience and opens the pleasure with a wonderful mocha scent that combines with roasted malt and caramelized brown sugar to create an olfactory symphony. And the coffee is also a dominant note on the first sip, which harmonizes wonderfully with the caramel, the toasted nuts, the earthy forest herbs and the fiery hint of chili.
