Aufsesser

The Aufsesser beer comes from a brewery that was already known by many names. Before the Rothenbach family decided to simply name the brewery after their hometown, the brewery with its attached inn was called “Zur Sonne”, “Sonnenhof” and “Sonnenbräu”. Today the brewery is simply called the Aufsesser Brewery, and the inn that belongs to it is called the Brautgasthof Rothenbach.

A Franconian family business

In contrast to finding a name, founding the brewery was not at all complicated. The history of the Rothenbach family goes back to Jean Rothenbach, who bought a property with the pleasant name “Wirtsgütlein” in 1823. This idyllic piece of land was passed down from father to son until it ultimately belonged to Jean's grandson Johann Rothenbach, who built a brewery on it. After the resourceful Johann acquired his brewing equipment from a neighboring Franciscan monastery, he was able to convince one of the monks to help him with the brewing. With the monk's active support, he managed to brew the first beer in November 1886. He served the creation in his own inn and soon had to go back to the brewhouse to get supplies. The Aufsesser Brewery was born and from then on was able to spoil the region with delicious beer. The success of the Rothenbach family did not diminish in the war years that followed: the brewery survived both world wars and began welcoming holidaymakers in the summer months in the 1950s.

Aufsesser beer: good for you and good for the environment

Today, the sixth generation of the Rothenbach family is at the helm and has successfully brought the brewery into the modern era. Little by little the buildings were renovated and expanded, modernized and renovated. With the values and traditions of their Franconian homeland in mind, the Rothenbachs celebrate lively beer culture and protect this valuable asset with the art of brewing and craftsmanship. The family brewery's creations can be found all over the world: the Rothenbachs are represented with their beers at trade fairs, markets and in international competitions. Their efforts are rewarded with great success and the beers have already won one or two prestigious awards. The Franconian beers delight gourmets from near and far and can also be enjoyed with a clear conscience. The Rothenbach family not only values outstanding taste, but also environmental protection and the preservation of their Franconian homeland. The brewery continually strives to improve its carbon footprint and obtains its electricity from both its own photovoltaic system and other renewable energy sources.
