Rowing has a centuries-old tradition in Bamberg. Two rivers divide the city and offer boaters the perfect playground to let off steam at the oar. One of the oldest clubs in the cathedral city is the Bamberg Rowing Society, which was founded in 1884. The rowing boats are stored in a house surrounded by red half-timbered timber, both in summer and winter, and right next door is the boathouse, a restaurant with a garden that invites you to fortify yourself after sport with the finest beer and homemade delicacies. In Bamberg, the Bootshaus is a real institution and the first address when you are hungry and thirsty after a long walk in the Hain city park. Melanie and Bernd Wulkesch are the warm hosts in the restaurant and beer garden and ensure that the people of Bamberg and their visitors feel welcome. The undisputed highlight has recently been Bernd's home-brewed beer.
Making things yourself is in Bernd's blood: the Wulkesch family is passionate about making jam, distilling schnapps and making wine. Preparing long-lasting specialties for the whole year with your own hands is a joy for all members of the clan. Because his dad already covered most areas of homemade delicacies, Bernd decided to get into brewing. He now has more than 20 years of brewing experience under his belt and makes his own beer. The barley juice was first made in the garage at home, but Bernd wanted more. Because starting out is difficult and, above all, expensive, the brewer teamed up with his colleagues from the Kundmüller brewery. The long-established brewery in Weiher makes its system available to the restaurateur and brewer and Bernd can brew his own brews on the professional system. Beer has been Bernd's passion for years and now he can finally put his beery ideas into practice and bring them to thirsty men (and women).
Bernd's creations are based on the Upper Franconian beer culture: Bamberg is the epicenter of a rich beer culture and a place where brewing has been going on for thousands of years. Hardly any city can offer such a nuanced variety of beer and hardly any people love their beer as much as the Upper Franconians. Bernd gets right into this and provides his compatriots with unconventional interpretations of the beers they grew up with. With an extra portion of hops, hand-picked malts and a lot of expertise, Bernd brews Franconian classics with a new twist that not only taste good on the sunny terrace of the boathouse. No matter whether you're sitting on the banks of the Regnitz or at home on the sofa, Bernd's beers are fun!
