Brouwerij Kerkom

According to its philosophy, the Belgian Brouwerij Kerkom is much more than just a brewery: the home of the brilliant Winterkoninkske Grand Cru, it is a popular rest stop for hikers and cyclists, an oasis for beer lovers and gourmets and a place where you can have a good time.

A brewer who just can't stop

The story of Brouwerij Kerkom begins with beer-loving Evarist Clerinx, who decided to brew his own beer in 1878. The sceptre was passed from father to son until 1968. Generation after generation of the Clerinx family brewed beer until the brewery was forced to close in the late 1960s due to the country's economic situation. The then managing director, Jean Clerinx, had to give up his job as a brewer and earn his daily bread in other ways. However, his brewing spirit remained undiminished and when he retired in 1988, he took up brewing again. He reopened the doors of Brouwerij Kerkom and brewed delicious beer for another 10 years until old age forced him to pass the mash paddle to Marc. The passionate brewer continued the revived company's streak of success and introduced a whole range of new beers. The brewery becomes a meeting point for beer-thirsty people from near and far, who sit down in the inviting courtyard in summer and stretch out their shivering limbs by the cozy fireplace in winter. The beer tastes just as good in the cold season as it does in the hot summer months!

With joy traditional

Tradition is the most important guideline for brewing at Kerkom: The brewery is proud of its almost 150-year brewing history and the long list of fine recipes developed by brewers from the Clerinx family. Belgium's rich brewing history also flows into the identity of Brouwerij Kerkom. The beers are developed with passion, enthusiasm and love and produced with craftsmanship, precision and time-honored brewing technology. The brewery's range is made up of a hand-picked blend of traditional beers and includes Belgian classics as well as the finest specialty beers and seasonal variants. An absolute favorite among the tasty beers is the Winterkoninkske Grand Cru , a winter beer that has a lot to offer: Not only is the Starbier, with an alcohol content of 13.0%, considered the strongest winter beer in Belgium, it also enchants with full-bodied notes of chocolate, hints of coffee and the taste of sherry. The speciality is bottled in elegant champagne bottles and is a noble tipple for festive occasions.
