Germans have a wide range of hobbies: while some enjoy football in an active or passive form, others prefer to solve crossword puzzles or Sudoku, do gardening or go for a stroll. Sports activities such as hiking, cycling, jogging or going to the gym are also very popular, as are board games or gaming on the console or computer. Although barbecuing is not on any hit list, we suspect that it is some kind of secret frontrunner. After all, in summer there is nothing nicer than standing at the grill with a cold beer in your hand and tending to the fragrant food on the grill, right? We love barbecues and would love to stoke a fire for cooking at any opportunity.
One company that specializes in the location-independent nature of grilling is CasusGrill™. The Danish company has developed an environmentally friendly disposable grill that you can take anywhere and that, in addition to its flexibility, also has good cooking performance and is more sustainable than comparable products. On one of their camping trips, Susanne and Carsten Brøgger tried unsuccessfully to prepare their grilled food on the disposable grill they had previously purchased. The distance between the embers and the grate was too small, so that the meat and vegetables were still raw on the inside, although they were already slightly burnt on the outside. In addition, the aluminum tray scorched the grass underneath and the time window with the perfect cooking temperature was too small to grill even remotely everything that Susanne and Carsten wanted to eat. The couple also saw carelessly discarded grill trays everywhere on the campsite, by lakes and river banks, on meadows and at rest areas. Something had to change, that became clear to both of them on this vacation. While enjoying a cold beer, the idea of designing a green version of the disposable grill was born.
The dynamic duo began development in 2009. The grill, released in 2016, is made from sustainable and biodegradable materials and can even be burned in a campfire after use. The base is largely made from recycled cardboard, and the grill grate is made from the rapidly renewable raw material bamboo. The same applies to the briquettes specially developed for the disposable grill: the round coals are combined with lava stone and are ready for use within a few minutes. In contrast to conventional coals, the donut-shaped briquettes retain the heat for an incredible 60 minutes. Susanne and Carsten's invention has received worldwide recognition and is repeatedly awarded prestigious prizes.
