Buddha and beer are two things that are hard to connect, even with the greatest effort of thinking. The Chinese Cheerday Brewery has made this quantum leap and released a beer that is sold in a Buddha-shaped bottle. Buddha bowls are a thing of the past, today there is Buddha beer!
Anyone who thought that the path to enlightenment was hard and rocky and peppered with laborious meditation and ascetic renunciation can breathe a sigh of relief: a sip of beer is enough to escape the dreary world and join the holy ranks of the enlightened. At least that is what the Cheerday Brewery promises everyone who consumes its beer. Poking fun at its Chinese origins, the brewery advertises Lucky Buddha with witty slogans that are reminiscent of Chinese fortune cookie wisdom and with a Chinese wall made of Buddha beer bottles. Whether enlightenment or not, Lucky Buddha is a light, fluffy lager that makes quite an impression with its bottle design: adorned with various symbols of luck, the green glass Buddha smiles blissfully and promises a truly divine beer pleasure.
According to Cheerday Brewery, the makers of Buddha beer, their bottle is not modelled on the image of the Buddha who is the linchpin of the Buddhist religion. It is rather Budai, the laughing Buddha. This figure is one of the seven gods of luck and is often used for advertising purposes in China. And if you are now going through your head of clichés about China, you will probably think of another thing besides Buddha: rice! Rice not only plays a major role in the Asian diet, but also in Lucky Beer : the Asian-style lager is brewed with rice flakes. These give the light beer a surprisingly sour note, making the lager a refreshing companion for warm summer evenings and hot days. So if you want to take a little trip to China after work, we recommend a bottle of Lucky Beer!
