Beyond the ordinary — that is the motto of the Duckstein Brewery and the premise under which the brewery’s exceptional and distinctive beers are produced.
The name of the brewery comes from a very special component of the beer: water forms the basis of every beer and is an essential component on which the quality of the product and also the taste and mouthfeel depend. In the case of Ducksteiner beer, the brewing water came from the Lutter stream. The brewery is from Königslutter am Elm, and the Lutter spring is not far away. The Elm mountain range consists largely of limestone: the Lutter flows through this rock and absorbs a lot of lime. Some of it precipitates again in a chemical process and forms tufa in the stream bed. This special type of rock is popularly known as "Duckstein" and is the namesake of the Duckstein brewery. In addition to the qualities that give it its name, the water from the Lutter is characterized by its rich mineral content and is therefore the perfect raw material for excellent beer. Together with hand-picked hops and aromatic malt, the exquisite water was processed by skilled brewers into the finest beer, which has always been popular with beer lovers.
The Ducksteiner brewery boasts a brewing tradition spanning over 400 years and was already very popular in the 17th century. Ducksteiner beer specialties were exported as far as the Netherlands and delighted not only the common people but also the Prussian King Frederick William I, who enjoyed a bottle or two while smoking with his cronies. The king's favor brought Ducksteiner beer a further boom, which only ended 200 years later. In order to save the traditional brewery from ruin, a larger brewery bought Duckstein. The change of ownership resulted in a change of location and a lot of things changed. However, the traditional recipes that are the heart of the brewery were retained. In addition to excellent beer, the brewery organizes numerous festivals and events every year. The name Duckstein stands for excellent beers and a living beer culture.
