Gaffel Kölsch

In Germany, many regions have their own beer specialty. The most famous regional beer is probably Kölsch, which is popular in Cologne. The people of Cologne are extremely proud of their beer style and celebrate the enjoyment of it with special glasses and entire bars dedicated to Kölsch. There is even a special name for the waiter who serves the Kölsch to his customers. The so-called Köbes is dressed in a blue apron and is said to have a direct, almost uncouth manner. But you can easily forgive Köbes for that, after all he keeps track of things even in the thickest of crowds and makes his way to you with a fresh beer when the last sip is still in the glass. The Gaffel brewery also employs some of the legendary Köbesse to bring their fine Kölsch to the people.

A brewery steeped in history

The Gaffel private brewery goes back to a brewery at Eigelstein 41 in Cologne. Beer has always been brewed in this place; this was first documented in 1302. There were several breweries and inns on the long street that were ready to quench the Cologne residents' thirst for beer with delicious beer after a long day at work. The busy brewing activity at Eigelstein was consistently maintained over the following centuries and has always been a popular meeting place for the people of Cologne. A little more than 600 years after it was first mentioned in documents, the Becker brothers bought the brewery and from then on brewed under the name Gaffel. You could drink wonderful beer from the top-fermented beer brewery “In der Gaffel” and enjoy hearty home-cooked food from the house kitchen. The efforts of the Becker brothers gave the brewery a whole new lease of life and made Gaffel into Cologne's largest home brewery for top-fermented beers almost 20 years after it was officially founded. Since then, things have been steadily improving and the Gaffel Kölsch brewery has established itself as a fixture for excellent beer in Cologne.

Smart for the environment

In addition to producing her beer, Gaffel feels a great responsibility towards her environment, which she fulfills with discipline. The brewery's management has developed a comprehensive concept for the responsible and careful use of resources and has made the topic of sustainability their daily bread. The family business relies on the latest technology: The brewing system is one of the most innovative and modern in Europe and is tailored to environmentally friendly work. By constantly reducing water and energy consumption, the brewery is continuously reducing its ecological footprint; the use of a combined heat and power plant and the brewery's own photovoltaic system supports this effect. The brewery's sustainable concept also includes company cars with electric drives, training courses on energy saving, recycling and raw materials from the region.

We celebrate the tireless efforts of this brewery with a cool Gaffel Kölsch!
