Beer and alcohol consumption have gone hand in hand over the last few centuries. The brewing process triggers the creation of alcohol and for a long time nobody had any objections to this. Women, men, pregnant women, children, senior citizens, sick and healthy people - everyone drank alcohol, often in the morning. Because the water quality in the Middle Ages was extremely questionable, people turned to beer to avoid poisoning themselves and their loved ones. Although barley juice also contained water, most bacteria and pests could be destroyed by boiling. Over the last few decades, things changed: health became more and more of a focus and people questioned their need for alcohol.
Maria-Elisabeth Laimer is one of these people. Like most of us, the South Tyrolean enjoyed beer, wine and spirits in her everyday life. The end of the day is nicer when you ring it in with a beer, the fire crackles even more comfortably when you drink a glass of red wine with it, you climb the highest peaks more cheerfully when a beer is waiting for you on the mountain pasture and a fine schnapps crowns a fine meal or a deal. Maria did not want to miss out on any of these little festivities of everyday life, but her health weighed on her conscience. Motivated by this dilemma, she founded FREEDL, Italy's very first family brewery, which made non-alcoholic beers her hobbyhorse. In a mental feat of strength, she separated pleasure from alcohol and began developing non-alcoholic beers that are just as celebratory, rewarding and satisfying as their alcoholic counterparts.
In order to distinguish their non-alcoholic brews from the uniformity of industrially produced versions, Maria and her team remembered their roots. As South Tyroleans, they live exactly between the Alps and the Mediterranean south - two worlds that are connected by a love of high-quality cuisine. This is exactly where FREEDL comes in, brewing craft beer that combines the brewing tradition of South Tyrol with the joie de vivre of Italy. To achieve outstanding results, Maria has brought a group of master brewers and beer experts on board and developed her very own production process together with them. Based on pure nature, the finest raw materials are processed into wonderful beer. All creations are regional and brewed with crystal-clear water from a South Tyrolean spring.
If you're fed up with headaches, heavy legs and exhaustion the next day, you should take a closer look at the creations from FREEDL. Let yourself be convinced by the abundance and taste of South Tyrol!
