Kreativbrauerei Kehrwieder

Kehrwieder is a Hamburg expression used to say goodbye to people you would like to see again and whose return you longingly await. The Duden lists the term as a synonym for the word dead end - but you really can't speak of that at the Kehrwieder Kreativbrauerei. The Northern Lights brew excellent beer that not only hamburgers enjoy.

From Hamburg to the wide world and back

Hamburg, once a stronghold of good beer, is now the capital of large industrial breweries. That's why we're pleased - and the people of Hamburg are even more pleased - that a small, independent brewery has established itself among the beer giants. The Kehrwieder Kreativbrauerei is shaking up the Hanseatic city's beer market with hand-brewed, imaginative craft beers that not only Northern Lights taste good. Olli and Julia are the dream team behind the label. The two passionate beer drinkers are globetrotters and have lived away from home for a long time. That's where the two of them came across real craft beer for the first time and "saw the light" - at least that's how Olli describes their first contact with American craft beer. An encounter that left a lasting impression and influence on him. Olli was extremely impressed by the skill with which American craft brewers transform classic beer styles into complex, aromatic works of beer art. The trained brewer returned to Hamburg together with Julia, who now looks after Kehrwieder's marketing, sales and events, and ventured into their first brewing project. The name Kehrwieder seems only logical!

Beer instead of milk

Like so many craft breweries, Kehrwieder started without its own brewery. Beers like their Frischer Traum Pale Ale or Jrön, which was created in cooperation with Düsseldorf's Uerige Obergärige Hausbrauerei, were initially brewed in the hallowed halls of long-established breweries. As a gypsy brewer, Olli benefited from the vacancy of larger breweries and initially did not have to invest in his own brewing system. The brewer has now put together his brewing system out of disused milk tanks and all sorts of other second-hand equipment - we would say he is a creative brewer through and through. Olli's own system also allows him to be even more experimental and creative: Instead of producing large quantities every time, his own system also allows him to produce a crazy experiment with just 500 hectoliters. This way, Olli can live out his craziest beer dreams and, in addition to his popular classics, also do something unusual. A virtually non-alcoholic IPA, for example. The ü.NN (above Normal Zero) is a hoppy masterpiece that contains only 0.4% alcohol.
