There's no shortage of creativity and individuality in today's brewery landscape – unique concepts, bold ideas, and unconventional beers with personality and edge are emerging everywhere. But even among these exciting projects, Octobräu clearly stands out because it's a mobile brewery. What initially sounds like a crazy idea is, in fact, a well-thought-out passion project with real depth and a beautiful philosophy.
Octobräu was founded by a small, passionate team who wanted to combine their love of brewing beer with their desire for freedom and sustainability. Like so many aspiring brewery owners today, the people behind Octobräu were sitting together one evening over a beer, dreaming of brewing. However, this pipe dream quickly became a reality when they came across a historic fire engine. Suddenly, the idea of a mobile brewery popped up and was so present and clear that the team took action the very next evening and purchased the Opel Blitz. Instead of settling into a permanent home, they transformed the decommissioned fire engine into a fully functional microbrewery—with everything that goes with it. The result is a mobile brewhouse with a tap system that not only produces beer but also travels wherever people want to drink it: to festivals, markets, farmyards, or remote natural locations. The pandemic temporarily put a stop to this creative venture, but Octobräu remained undeterred and relocated brewing operations to a partner brewery. Most of the beer is still produced there today, and the mobile brewery serves as a sales vehicle and flexible serving location. When a festival, trade fair, or similar celebratory occasion is approaching, brewing is still done in the Opel Blitz.
Octobräu's philosophy is characterized by artisanal quality, spontaneity, and a strong regional focus. Brewed in small batches, with great dedication, using local ingredients wherever possible, and entirely without industrial additives, the joy of craft is as central to the brewing process as the desire to create something special with each brew. The product range changes regularly and is guided by the seasons, raw material availability, and the creative playfulness of the brewing team. From fruity pale ales and seasonal special brews to experimental Gose variations and spicy winter beers – at Octobräu, no two brews are the same.
The concept, with its mobile, wheeled base and fixed location, allows Octobräu not only to brew delicious beers, but also to be close to the people and rethink beer culture: direct, transparent, and with a great deal of joy in exchange.
