Ritterguts Gose

Gose was first mentioned around 1000 by Emperor Otto III. He is said to have praised the taste of Goslar beer (short: Gose), which caused it to quickly spread throughout the Harz region.

In the 14th century, Goslar Gose was even delivered as far as Hamburg, which was not without problems given the road conditions of the time and the transport by horse-drawn carts.

In the “Universal Encyclopedia of Science and Arts” the following can be read about beer as early as 1733: “After Garleb, Goßlar is the best, because it does not cause any stones to grow in people who drink it… The Halberstadt Briehan and the Quedlinburg Gose are among the most famous and best white beers.”

Even big names like Goethe are enthusiastic and are said to have said: “Yes, I often sat in the Gosenschänke!”

However, after Gose had almost died out after all these centuries, in 2000 the Ritterguts Gose was on the rise again. There are now around 30 Gose bars in Leipzig, Halle and the surrounding area. This year Gose is also celebrating its incredible 1000-year anniversary.

Since 2015, the original Ritterguts Gose has also been available in Finland, Poland and Belgium, bringing the number of export countries to eight.
