The term speakeasy comes from the United States. In the 1920s and early 1930s, there was Prohibition. This law banned the population from drinking alcohol and triggered a wave of resistance. Everywhere, private individuals brewed in the safety of their own homes or retreated deep into the forest to operate secret distilleries. The beers and liquors produced were not only enjoyed at home, however; people also met in so-called speakeasies: these illegal establishments served the forbidden goods and were a meeting point for anyone longing for a cold pint. The brewery of the same name in San Francisco pays homage to the courage of its ancestors with the finest beer and ensures that they are not forgotten.
When Speakeasy Ales & Lagers was founded, the brewery only had the former: the cornerstone of all the Californian brewery's work and the legendary first work of the brewery was its Prohibition Ale . The amber-colored beer captures the spirit of the secret brewers and distillers of times long gone and enchants with fruity sweetness, warm spices and a generous portion of hops. To this day, the cult beer is part of the range and is one of the most popular in the wide selection. A whole series of strong, bold and drinkable beers were added and ensured that the brewery became known throughout America. In the early days of the company, the brewery only opened its doors on Fridays: at the start of the weekend, friends, relatives and curious onlookers would flock there to sample the week's fresh brews. When the rush became too great and people had to be turned away on a regular basis, Speakeasy planned and opened its taproom in 2013. From then on, a larger number of beer-thirsty people could be supplied and fresh beer was no longer only available on Fridays.
Before the company became a national success, the barrels were filled by hand and delivered personally. Today, the brewery has expanded and sells its beer in the USA and the rest of the world. Others take over the delivery for them so that all energy can be channeled into the development and brewing of the fine beer. By participating in national and international competitions, the team has made a good name for itself and is now one of the most successful breweries in its city. Speakeasy Lager & Ales now looks back on more than 25 years of brewing experience and has established itself on the international beer market.
