Warsteiner is one of the best-known and largest breweries in Germany and looks back on a long, eventful company history. The company was named after its hometown: The town of Warstein is located in North Rhine-Westphalia and borders a large nature park. A few small hills tower over the town and the Wäster river meanders through it. The brewery site is located south of the town center and is surrounded by forests, meadows and fields. But that was not always the place where the good Warsteiner beer was brewed.
The brewery began with the Cramer family, who are still involved in the management of the company today. Antonius Cramer was a farmer and brewer. After brewing only for his own needs for a long time, he decided to sell his brews in the middle of the 18th century. In 1753, his output reached a taxable amount for the first time and this date was set as the founding moment. The farm was located in the city center and enjoyed great popularity due to this favorable location. Even after son Johannes Vitus took over the brewing business, the streak of success did not end. The citizens of Warstein appreciated the good beer from the Cramer house. A city fire put a damper on the venture, but the Cramers did not let this get them down and rebuilt the destroyed house. In the process, a bar and a guest house were added. The Domschänke in the heart of Warstein still exists today. A hundred years later, the connection to the railway network brought completely new opportunities for the brewery: the beer could now be sold far beyond the borders of Warstein. The facility was extensively expanded and modernized, but it was not until the 1970s that the company reached its maximum capacity and moved lock, stock and barrel to the outskirts of the city.
Katharina Cramer is now the ninth generation of the family at the helm of the brewery. Despite the resounding success and the permanent ranking among Germany's largest breweries, it is important to the team to remain down-to-earth and modest. The quality of the beer comes first and is repeatedly rewarded with prestigious awards. Creations such as the popular Pilsner represent German craftsmanship and show that taste is the highest priority. In addition to their brews, the heart of the Warsteiner brewery family beats for social commitment. Whether at festivals, during sports or at the annual balloonists' meeting in the sky above Warstein - the brewery is involved everywhere and is represented with its fine brews.
