Axel Kiesbye - founding father of a movement

Axel Kiesbye – founding father of a movement

Anyone who has completed training to become a beer sommelier has already learned something about Axel Kiesbye or his beers. Axel Kiesbye had the idea of training as a beer sommelier as early as 2003. A year later, together with DOEMENS, he was the founding father of high-quality training to become a qualified beer sommelier for everyone. This paved the way for the founding of the graduate association “Association of Diploma Beer Sommeliers” in 2005. The Diploma Beer Sommeliers are trained in Germany at the DOEMENS Academy and in Austria at the Kiesbye's Academy. Further beer sommelier courses were very well received in Italy, Brazil and the USA in the following years.

Of course, championships are also held so that the qualified beer sommeliers can compete with each other. The highlight every two years is the World Beer Sommelier Championship, which took place for the first time in Austria in 2009.

Kiesbye's forest beers

The Kiesbye Academy is one of the most famous craft beer breweries in Austria.

With the forest beers, the founder of Kiesbye's, Axel Kiesbye, has created something very special. He uses a variety of ingredients from the forest during the brewing process for each of his beers, which gives the beers a distinctive taste. With its innovative forest beers, Kiesbye's has rightly earned a name for itself in Austria and the entire craft beer scene. For example, flowers, leaves, branches, fruits and berries are collected fresh from the forest and incorporated into the beers, so that a special enjoyment and special aroma of the forest is conveyed to the consumer.
