Gargoyles have been found in both secular and sacred architecture for thousands of years. The figures, which are based on mystical beings and sinister demons, serve both a practical and an idealistic purpose. In times when gutters and downpipes were not yet common, they drained water from the roof in regulated streams. Ideally, they stand well beyond the wall so that the falling water can be directed in a wide arc away from the foundation of the building. Their demonic shape is derived from their symbolic function: the gargoyles were supposed to protect the house or church from all kinds of evil creatures and ward off impending disaster.
The Californian brewery Stone Brewing has taken a liking to gargoyles and has made them the figure on its coat of arms. A particularly grim-looking specimen with sharp fangs, bat ears and huge horns adorns the brewery's logo and is seen by the team as a protector and talisman. Their winged gargoyle motivates them every day to do their best and to serve only the most delicious beer.
The gargoyle stickers add a mystical touch to refrigerators, cars, laptops and all other surfaces and subtly show that you have excellent taste in beer.
