Flötzinger Bräu

In the Upper Bavarian city of Rosenheim, there are fewer than a handful of breweries that cater to the physical well-being of its almost 65,000 residents. One of these breweries is Flötzinger Bräu, which has been supplying Rosenheim residents with the finest beer for almost 500 years. The private brewery is family-run and makes an important contribution to culture and life in its hometown with the Flötzinger festival tent at the Rosenheim Autumn Festival.

500 years of brewery history

Although the first documented mention of the granting of brewery rights by Duke Wilhelm IV was only recorded in 1543, it is assumed that brewing was already taking place in Wiesengasse before then. Because there was a big fire the year before, this can no longer be clearly understood today. Brewery operations began in the following decades and the brewery took part in the first Rosenheim Autumn Festival on the Loretowiese in 1861. The eponymous Flötzinger family had moderate success and decided to sell the brewery in 1868. The buyer is Johann Krichbaumer, whose descendants are still at the helm of the company today. At the same time, Rosenheim becomes a city and offers its citizens 11 breweries. Under the leadership of the Krichbaumer family, the brewery is being modernized and expanded, while more and more Rosenheim breweries are giving up the mash paddle and closing. The Flötzinger Bräu is still thriving today and is currently run by Marisa Steegmüller and her father, but her two children are already in the starting blocks to take over the reins.

Creating good things together

One factor that certainly contributes to success is family cohesion. Through tragedies and difficult times, the Steegmüllers were always a good team and supported each other. Today they brew a select selection of down-to-earth beers that shine with their taste, character and quality according to the motto “true to the good”. Flötzinger has built up a good reputation over the last few centuries that has long since transcended Rosenheim's borders. Although the technology differs significantly from that at the time the brewery was founded, the ingredients and attention to detail have remained the same: honest craftsmanship, the best raw materials from the region and passion for the end product run like a common thread through the brewery's history. Beers like Flötzinger Hell demonstrate skill and dedication. So that the people of Rosenheim and everyone else can enjoy beer that is always equally good, production is subject to strict quality control.

The Flötzinger Bräu is a lively part of Rosenheim's urban culture
