When it comes to India Pale Ale, the motto has recently been “more is more”: the brewers used incredible amounts of hops, increased the bitterness levels to dizzying heights and served their fans brews with an alcohol content of 7 or more percent. We are not at all opposed to this development, but we are also happy if one or two breweries take a different approach.
One of these is, for example, Ale Mania. Instead of ten hop varieties, Lime Mania only has one and their latest work brings not twelve, but 2.5% alcohol content to the table. Their sleek, citrus-driven IPA is brewed with Mandarina Bavaria hops. Its natural tangerine aroma is supported by the use of orange and lemon peels; Barley, oat and caramalz provide the gentle base.
The light-footed IPA comes in a shimmering copper sun gold and is crowned with a hand's breadth of airy foam. The first impression is citrus-fresh: a scent of lemon, lime and orange fills the air and makes you want to drink it. The taste follows on from the foot and delivers a variety of citrus notes, herbs, light grains, fruity sweetness and a mild bitterness.
Anyone looking for the full IPA flavor without the harsh bitterness and hop burn should try this slim version from Ale-Mania!
