Freedom is something you only appreciate when you don’t have it anymore. So often we don’t take advantage of the great freedoms of our everyday life in the western world. We tirelessly run in the hamster wheel, every hour is clocked through and structure shapes our lives. And yet we have the freedom to choose. We have the freedom to go on vacation, see our family and live in peace. What most of us take for granted has come to an abrupt end for others: war broke out in Ukraine and snatched away people’s freedom.
Like many other breweries, Braumanufaktur Hertl from Thüngfeld is showing solidarity with the people in the war zones. The team got the Bamberg beer historian Markus Raupach on board and brewed a beer together with Varvar , the proceeds of which support the Ukrainian brewery.
The creation is called liberty and is a fine multi-grain beer with a peace tube on the label. Behind the symbol of unity and community is a composition of sun-ripened grain: the varieties of barley, wheat, oats, spelt and rye were processed into delicious malt and brewed together with smoked malt to create this velvety masterpiece. The malt is the sole hero of this tasty story and brings creamy caramel into play in addition to crisp cereal notes.
