Hamburg can look back on a long and eventful history of beer. Hearty beer was brewed in the Hanseatic city as early as the early Middle Ages and certainly before that. A real treat in the history of Hamburg beer is the Senatsbock. This tradition originated in the 1950s and has been picked up again and again. For the development and production, brewers from five different breweries gathered year after year in the run-up to Christmas to join forces to brew a bock beer. This special bock heralded the fifth season: the bock beer season marked the beginning of the new year and the approaching Lent and was greeted with a big festival.
Over the years things became quiet about the Senate goat, until a handful of brewers decided in 2013 to revive the tradition. The Hamburg team is working flat out on recipes and was able to tap the first new version of the Senatsbock in 2015. There are no specifications for their project, only the number and type of malt used for the Doppelbock always remains the same: five hand-picked malts form the taste construct.
Today, the number of breweries involved has grown to eight, and the Kehrwieder creative brewery is part of it. You have made a significant contribution to the creation of the Hamburger Senatsbock 2021 in the Salted Caramel Edition. Look forward to a full-bodied bock with heavenly notes of chocolate and caramel spiced with sea salt!
