The Nordik-Porter from Störtebeker is a fine beer specialty based on the brewery’s strong strong beer. The 7.5% strong brew specialty was turned into an aroma-intensive Eisbock by means of cooling: The underlying technology involves freezing the beer, which is why the Bock has "ice" in its name. The freezing process reduces the water content in the beer, the aromas intensify and the alcohol content also increases.
Störtebeker’s Nordik-Porter comes with a whopping 9.1% alcohol content and inspires with a voluminous body and strong notes of melt-in-the-mouth chocolate and freshly brewed coffee. The latter also seems to have been the inspiration for the optics: the powerful porter flows into the glass in an opaque black and crowns itself with a large amount of hazelnut-brown foam. The roasted coffee and chocolate notes are the common thread for this intense beer enjoyment and appear both on the nose and on the palate: a tempting scent of espresso, cocoa and dark malt leads from the first sniff to the initial taste. This lets you melt away with its sensual mouthfeel. On the tongue, coffee and chocolate meet notes of dried plums, raisins in rum, toasted rye bread and freshly harvested forest berries. A fine toasted bitterness elegantly rounds off the flavourful symphony and cleverly balances the powerful sweetness.
