Honey has a long tradition in the history of alcoholic beverages. Mead, an alcoholic drink fermented from honey with spices, was already mentioned in Nordic mythology. It wasn't just today that honey found its way into beer.
Hohmann's brewery looks back on a long brewing tradition, even though the brewery itself was only founded in 2007. Beer had been brewed in Fulda for centuries before and Hohmann follows this custom. The creative brewers from Fulda have a lot of beer knowledge and produce beers that are both traditional and innovative. Their Braggot Honey Malt Ale was created in the Braumeister Edition series and is a beer style that is experiencing a renaissance thanks in part to the brewers at HBH.
In contrast to traditional mead, Braggot impresses with a cornucopia of sweet and beery aromas. With its golden amber tone, the color of the beer is clearly reminiscent of fresh, clear honey. And we also encounter this in the scent: a fine honey note meets a subtle malt note and the sweetness of candied apples on the nose. The initial taste confirms the first impression and presents a malty-sweet total work of art with soft caramel notes, the creamy sweetness of fresh blossom honey, a hint of yeast and beautiful spice notes. The finish is crisply bitter and brings a subtle fruity note into the aromatic play.
Braggot from Hohmanns Brauhaus is a wonderfully balanced beer that can be served wonderfully as a dessert beer thanks to its complex sweetness.
