In the past, special moments and festive days were crowned with the opening of a bottle of sparkling wine. The popping of the cork introduced the enjoyment in an atmospheric way and the sparkling sparkling wine was drunk from elegant glasses, which made a good sound when toasted. We’re definitely friends of fine alcohol in festive moments, but sparkling wine isn’t necessarily our first choice. Fortunately, a lot has happened in the world of alcoholic beverages over the past few decades. Fine beers have knocked sparkling wine and champagne off the podium and are replacing the pretentious sparkling wine with subtly composed alternatives made from hops, malt and yeast. Many breweries have at least one brew that is suitable for a celebratory drink thanks to its elegance and sophisticated brewing method. In addition, there is a seasonal specialty that is brewed especially for festive occasions: festival beer!
As the name suggests, Festbier is brewed at the high points of the calendar year and is usually served at Christmas, the beginning of spring, Lent or similar occasions.
The example from the Roppelt brewery is released annually at the beginning of autumn and sweetens the cold season with a malty character, strong stature and dark soul. The full-bodied beer brings a potpourri of caramel, roasted grain, freshly baked bread, plums and honey into the glass. The hops contribute herbal notes and a fresh fruitiness to the enjoyment.
