Thirst for beer is a plague that knows only one solution: beer. The beer lover has countless options for satisfying the urgent need - as long as the brew contains hops and malt, it also helps. Nevertheless, there are creations that are more refreshing and easier to drink than others. Like so many things, it’s a matter of taste, but we can all agree that a smooth lager is more thirst-quenching than, say, an IPA stuffed to the brim with bitter hops or a thick stout. In Bavaria, at any rate, light is the first choice if you have a dry throat.
A fine example of this style of brewing comes from the Spessart brewery. Their interpretation is called Räuberchen Hell and is a tasty composition of soft malt and fresh hops. The classic export beer flows into the glass in a clear straw yellow and is crowned with a cap of coarse-pored foam. A bouquet of golden grain, freshly mown grass and floral hops fills the air. The initial sip reveals a balanced brew with mild sweetness, fine tartness and delicate bitterness. Notes of crispy bread crust, blooming summer meadow, herbs, gently roasted malt and spicy hops ensnare the palate.
