Autumn is a magnificent time of year: the leaves on the trees turn orange, red and yellow, the first frosts cover meadows and forests with a glittering glaze early in the morning, fog moves through the country, the air is wonderfully fresh and you can relax after a long Finally snuggle up in a cozy sweater again and drink a cup of tea or cocoa. The culmination of the season are the fruits that adorn the branches of the trees everywhere. Grapes hang from the vines in plump panicles, purple plums tempt you to eat and mirabelle plums, sloes, quince and pears need to be harvested and processed. For many, however, the king of autumn is the apple. There are hundreds of different varieties that delight with a wealth of colours, tastes, textures and shapes. You can enjoy the pome fruit raw, use it for compote, cake, juice or jelly, or use it to refine your sauerkraut or red cabbage.
The brewers at the Southern California brewery Coronado had another idea: in collaboration with their colleagues at Karl Strauss Brewing, they created a smooth West Coast IPA flavored with apples.
The autumn fruit runs like a red thread through the hoppy beer and enriches the smell and taste with delicate acidity and the wonderful taste of a freshly harvested Granny Smith apple.
