Inspiration for this fall treat is Pumpkin Pete. The Shipyard Brewing Company's iconic mascot is an unbeatable ping-pong table genius, a crime-fighting hero, a connoisseur of offbeat coffee, and a lover of lobster pizza. His favorite drink in all these illustrious activities is his own beer: the Pumpkinhead Ale.
The seasonal beer specialty is brewed every year just in time for the golden autumn and enchants with an aromatic composition of pumpkin notes and spices such as cinnamon and nutmeg. The spicy wheat ale brings 4.5% alcohol content to the table and is brewed with three types of malt and the hop varieties Willamette and Saphir.
Most beers are served plain and simply in a well-chilled glass or mug. Trimmings have no place in beer. Shipyards Pumpkinhead is a completely different story: For a special beer experience, the brewers (and Pumpkin Pete) recommend garnishing the glass with a rim of brown sugar and cinnamon. This little extra emphasizes the warm spiciness of the pumpkin beer and complements the aroma wonderfully. If you want to top it all off, drink a shot of spiced rum or vanilla vodka. A total first for the Bavarian beer drinker, but we think it might be worth trying. Enjoy!
