Nebuchadnezzar, known as Neb for short, was originally a home brew. According to the brewers, it was scaled up for commercial use beyond all reason - or economic sense. That either means the boys have lost their minds or that Neb is so good they couldn't possibly keep it to themselves.
We tried Neb and were sure: it was the second thing that drove them to irrationality and the release of this beer. Luckily, because the Imperial IPA is really outrageously good!
We're not the only ones who think so; the Swedish brewers have won numerous national and international awards with their creation. According to ratebeer, Nebuchadnezzar was even the best beer in Sweden in 2013! Wow!
Nebuchadnezzar presents itself in a cloudy copper red in the glass and forms a beige head of foam. The full power of hops is evident in the scent that rises from the foam. Spicy pine resin meets juicy citrus fruit, a touch of malt underlines the hoppy pleasure with caramel notes. The fine nose smells lime, grapefruit peel, tangerine and peach. In terms of taste, Neb surprises with its good balance. Despite the excess of hops, the IIPA is not too bitter, but instead delights with a light toffee flavor that gently underlines the hop bomb. A lot of resin represents the hops, which become really bitter and clear in the finish. The 8.5% ABV is cleverly hidden in endless layers of hoppy flavor.
We have rarely drunk an IIPA that is so delicately composed and at the same time hop-intensive. Extremely successful!
