If you visit the website of the Rodenbach brewery, you will see a grandiose number of medals and cups in the virtual showcases and shelves. The creations of the Belgian brewers are popular all over the world and bring their makers international recognition every year. An absolute trophy hunter in the range is Caractère Rouge: the Flemish ale has won more than 20 competitions and is more highly decorated than almost any other beer.
In order to do justice to the brilliance of their brew, the brewers fill Caractère Rouge in champagne bottles and limit the number to 900. These details give the beer additional pomp and represent its complex character wonderfully. However, before it ends up in the chic vessel, freshly harvested cherries, raspberries and cranberries are added to the beer. The subsequent maturation takes place in oak barrels, a second fermentation also takes place after bottling.
The red bottle with the neck wrapped in glossy paper conceals a specialty in the same shade: the ale flows in a shimmering ruby into the glass and is crowned with an ivory-colored crown of dense-pored, creamy foam. A summery symphony of cherry, raspberry, cranberry, oak wood and fine schnapps runs like a red thread through the olfactory and culinary enjoyment of beer. A powerful 7.0% alcohol content completes the experience with fiery warmth.
