The Christmas beer Rocking Rudolph from Greene King is a very special specialty: In contrast to most winter beers, it is a real hop bomb and is brewed with an incredible six types of hops. The aromatic hop varieties Tettnager, Bramling Cross, Pilgrim, Target, First Gold and Challenger ensure a nice tartness in the beer, but otherwise remain surprisingly discreet in the background.
Rocking Rudolph flows into the glass in a coppery amber tone. A fine red shine permeates the golden beer and makes it a little more festive. A scent rises from the fine-pored foam that contributes to the festivity of the winter beer: creamy caramel meets roasted malt, roasted almonds and candied red berries on the nose. Heavenly Christmas! The initial taste is surprisingly malty and hardly suggests the six types of hops. Soft and sweet, aromas of chocolate-covered raisins, buttery toffee, caramelized nuts and dried red fruits caress the palate. A gentle carbonation gives the beer additional weight. It's only in the finish that the hops come into play: delicately bitter and dry, they take over and also contribute a spicy herbal note.
Rocking Rudolph is a classic Christmas beer with a hop twist. With its dark flavors, it goes wonderfully with winter poultry dishes. Crispy roasted goose from the oven, a turkey stuffed with woody herbs and clove-studded tangerines or a chicken bedded on floury potatoes and thyme are the perfect accompaniments to this elegant winter beer.
