The Zipfer brewery from the small town of Zipf in Austria has a varied range of products that includes both classics and modern beer specialties. One of the more traditional styles is Märzen, which the team has interpreted in an Austrian style. Its version brings a smooth 5.0% alcohol content to the glass and balances the strong barley malt with fine hops of the Magnum and Perle varieties. The green gold grows on the sunny meadows of the Mühlviertel and is brewed as naturally as possible. The reward for this effort is a subtly rounded, harmonious taste that combines robust malt notes with grassy hops, honey and a hint of citrus.
This delicacy goes best with hearty dishes. Austrian cuisine has a variety of hearty delicacies to offer and the balanced character of the beer complements them wonderfully. Our favorite to accompany Zipfer Märzen is a fine roast. We take meat from the shoulder of the pig and braise it in the oven with onions, carrots, celery, garlic and a little caraway. After cooking, the sauce is strained through a sieve and topped with cream and a little cold butter. The tender roast is served with homemade napkin dumplings and red cabbage. Serve with a cool Märzen and our Sunday is perfect!
