As in all Western countries, Christmas in Denmark is a magical affair. The festive period begins about six weeks before Christmas Eve with the so-called Julefrokost: Similar to Christmas celebrations in Germany, people meet up with friends, family or colleagues for a long lunch or dinner. The table bends under its culinary weight and drinks of an alcoholic nature flow freely. Instead of an Advent calendar, the Danes have an Advent candle. This thick candle is marked from one to 24 and you burn one section each day until you reach Christmas Eve. Between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day, all shops are closed and you can spend time with your family with homemade delicacies such as Karrysild, Flæskesteg or Æbleflæsk. Before the presents are opened, people hold hands and dance around the festively decorated Christmas tree while listening to cheerful songs.
The Danish brewery Tuborg supplies the right beer for these and all other customs. Their winter brews appear every year just in time for Advent and spread a festive atmosphere with their Christmas look and spicy taste.
Julebryg is a dark lager with 5.6% alcohol content and rings in the Christmas season every year on the first Friday in November with a delicate bouquet of creamy caramel, crunchy grains, cassis and licorice.
