At school you learn that black is not a color. The darkest spot in the paint box is one of the achromatic colors together with white and grey. If you want to look at it physically, black is a state in which light is absent. We see black when our brains aren’t receiving stimuli, and objects appear black when they don’t reflect light. Philosophically, black is the color of emptiness and nothingness, we can lose ourselves in its infinite depth and recognize in it the plurality of being. In fashion, black is considered timelessly elegant, and when it comes to beer, you can’t go wrong with black.

An extremely sombre example of achromatic art of brewing comes from the Lehe house. The Estonian brewery has ventured into a Black IPA and put its very own stamp on the curious beer style. Her version flows into the glass in the darkest shade of mahogany and is adorned with a creamy head. In view of the look, the first impression is surprising: instead of malt in abundance, one smells pine resin and citrus notes at first. Coffee and chocolate are added little by little. When it comes to taste, it’s the other way around. Softly melting chocolate and freshly brewed mocha are followed by notes of tropical fruit and juicy citrus fruit.

Step into the darkness and discover this exquisite beer treat!
