The inspiration for this beer was a cake that completely delighted the brewers of the Lithuanian brewery Sakiškių alus. The pastry, which gave the seasoned men weak knees, was an exotic cake with mango and pineapple. There are many recipes that revolve around the golden tropical fruit and we are sure that most of them are delicious. But not as delicious as the beer of the same name.
Sakiškių alus Barleywine is brewed with the highest quality dried mango and pineapple and flavored with a blend of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and clove. In the end, it smells and tastes like an oven-fresh cake.
The liquid pastry flows into the glass in the warm golden color of forest honey and is adorned with a stately crown of lightly tinted, fine-pored foam. A malty scent with hints of mango and pineapple as well as caramel and cinnamon fills the air and makes you want to drink. This reveals a beery dessert with a smooth mouthfeel. Strong grain notes mix on the palate with pineapple, mango, dried fruit, spices and creamy toffee to create a sensual seduction. A hint of bitterness cushions the bulky sweetness and leads into a dry, short finish.
You could enjoy this beer instead of a dessert, but it also tastes great as an accompaniment to a generous piece of cake.
