Low key and flex are expressions that are mainly found in the parlance of those who are not yet old enough to have a beer. The language of the younger generations is pervaded by English idioms and their lives are shaped by habits and customs that are called “cultures”. Flex culture is the peculiarity of presenting one’s own life in a particularly good light that does not necessarily correspond to reality. This habit can be found on social media as well as in everyday conversations and has been criticized from many quarters. In order not to appear as an exaggerated show-off, many therefore use a subordinate form of the flex culture: Low key flex is the new, more socially acceptable flex and describes a more subtle form of showing off.
