Because their flagship IPA, King’s Blockhouse, was met with such enthusiasm, brewers at South African brewery Devil’s Peak decided to brew another twist on their golden boy. King’s Blockhouse Grapefruit combines the smooth and hoppy taste of the popular classic with a generous load of grapefruit. The tangy sweetness and tart acidity of the fruit wonderfully complements the original aroma of the India Pale Ale and gives the already successful beer a juicy kick of freshness.
King’s Blockhouse in the grapefruit version presents itself in a warm golden hue shot through with a peachy shimmer. A delicate veil of white foam adorns the beer and leaves plenty of room for the heavenly scent: the bouquet of passion fruit, pine resin, citrus fruit and floral hops is given an elegant freshness by the grapefruit. The initial taste reveals a powerful body with a creamy mouthfeel. On a soft malt bed with hints of oven-fresh bread, an abundance of the finest hop notes spreads and kisses the palate with the aromas of mown grass, blooming summer meadows, tropical fruits and spicy pine resin. The dominant taste is the grapefruit, which underscores the fruity freshness and crisp bitterness of the IPA with sweetness, acidity and tartness.
