BrewDog's Cocoa Psycho inspires with the splendor of bygone days: the voluminous beer creation ties in with the lavish decadence and luxury of the Russian tsars. The monarchs were known for their flamboyance and love of excess. The celebrations at the Russian court have a legendary reputation and were supposedly characterized by exuberance and a touch of megalomania. This is exactly where the BrewDog brewers come in: Their Russian Imperial Stout is hard to beat in terms of full-bodiedness and intensity.
Cocoa Psycho presents itself in velvety soft mahogany in the glass, a veil of hazelnut-brown foam adorns the opaque body. The dark beauty hides a secret that can already be perceived in the fragrance: in addition to the usual ingredients, the brewers used vanilla beans, coffee beans and cocoa beans. These exotic raw materials give the beer an enticing smell of freshly brewed coffee, milk chocolate and caramel. The initial sip follows the olfactory first impression and caresses the palate with large roasted aromas and taste nuances of delicately melting chocolate, espresso, candied red fruits, toasted malt, cocoa and liquorice. A hint of smoke adds an interesting touch to the velvety beer, while the alcohol provides a warmth that spreads from mouth to belly. The finish is strongly bitter and enchants with a fine vanilla note.
