Die-hard beer drinkers consider shandy to be something that is definitely below regular beer in the hierarchy. A Radler is basically a beer for those who don't like the bitter, real beer taste. In Bavaria there is even a word for this condescending definition of the cyclist: Gwasch. What can best be translated into standard German as “Gepansche” describes the Radler as an inferior alternative to beer that has been washed down with soda. We can understand the mockery, but we also know how delicious an ice-cold Radler tastes on a bone-dry, hot summer day. Pro beer doesn't necessarily mean against cyclists!

For their Radler, the brewers at the Bavarian Schönramer brewery from Schönram on the border with Austria used their popular Schönramer Hell and mixed it with natural lemon juice. In contrast to the frequently used lemon juice concentrate, the fresh juice is much fruitier and less sweet. The slim beer flows into the glass in a sunny gold tone and forms a fleeting, white head of foam. A wonderful scent of fresh lemonade fills your nose when pouring and makes you want to take the first sip. This reveals a summery, tangy beer that is really fun with a well-balanced fruit sweetness and a refreshing amount of acidity. A nice malt base provides the fresh lemon flavor, and the hops add a pleasant tartness.

The Schönramer Radler is exactly the right Radler for everyone who doesn't want to go without their beer, even on hot days. With 2.2% alcohol content, it is wonderfully light-footed and is a delicious thirst quencher in between!
