Beer and spices generally have little in common: the Bavarian Purity Law prohibits the use of any raw materials other than hops, malt, water and yeast, so pepper, cloves, salt and cinnamon are rarely found in conventional breweries. The craft beer movement has brought about a real change in the selection of ingredients and ensured that more and more unusual things appear on the label. At the same time, beer has also conquered other culinary areas. The spice market, for example!
Ankerkraut is a family business from Hamburg that specializes in the production and distribution of spices and spice blends. With the desire to breathe new life into the kitchen cupboard, Anne and Stefan founded their culinary empire and are ensuring that more and more people are daring to cook again. Their products are made from selected raw materials and do not contain any artificial additives. Sustainability, responsibility and fairness are just as important to the couple as the excellent taste of their spices. Our highlight in the range is of course the beer marinade . This spice blend contains salt, tomato, onion, garlic, paprika, pepper and all kinds of other delicacies and is perfect for giving a good piece of meat, seitan or tofu that certain something extra. If you mix the dry marinade with a few spoonfuls of beer, you can massage it wonderfully into the grilled food and get the maximum flavor out of it.
The best ideas arise from necessity, as countless entrepreneurs and founders can certainly confirm. In Anne and Stefan Lemcke's case, the brilliant idea was not necessarily based on an emergency situation, but it can be said that a grievance led to it. Strictly speaking, there were two: Firstly, Stefan was dissatisfied with his job at the time and was looking for a new sphere of activity, and secondly, his wife Anne was fed up with the chaos in the kitchen. Spices usually come in small jars and tins, and anyone who likes to cook knows that a lot of things accumulate there. To make room in the kitchen cupboard, Anne and Stefan simply started mixing their spices to match the theme. This stroke of genius was the beginning of something really big: The two founded Ankerkraut and their idea hit like a bomb. With the help of well-known investors, they set up their young company professionally and soon had a comprehensive range of fine spice blends on offer. Corona gave them an additional boost. Because people had to stay at home more often during the pandemic, many started cooking and bought the delicious spices from Ankerkraut for their kitchen escapades.
