The cannon is a weapon that shoots heavy iron balls or shot through a tube and was invented in the Middle Ages. The flat-fire gun was probably developed in China and found its way to Europe via the Middle East. Today, you mainly see cannons when you visit a medieval castle or fortress. These were protected by the weapons and the iron giants often still stand in place today. The gun also adorns many coats of arms and can also be found in the logo and title of a Franconian brewery: the Brauerei Kanone from Schnaittach.
Although the company's official founding date is 1886, the Kanone brewery was first mentioned in documents in 1560. Brewing was already taking place back then, but the history of the following 200 years was only recorded incompletely. We pick up the thread again in 1749 with Johann Löhr: He came from Hollfeld to Schnaittach and bought the property and brewery. However, he was not a master brewer, but a master blacksmith and stuck to his proverbial lasts. The brewing craft was not taken up again until generations later. In 1886, the first beer flowed from the pen of the Löhr family. At that time, however, the brewing was not done on their own property, but in the communal brewery in Schnaittach. Each brewer made beer according to their own recipe and then sold the brew in their own inn. In Ferdinand Löhr's time, this old tradition came to an end: the communal brewery was closed because it was in urgent need of renovation and Ferdinand built his own brewhouse, where brewing continues to this day. Two generations of the Löhr family are currently at the helm. Gerda Löhr-Küchler was the first woman in her family to take up the brewing trade. She is responsible for the fine beers and runs the company together with her husband Kurt and her son Christian.
The family brewery loves and lives the craft of brewing. Tradition plays just as big a role in their daily work as the quality of their brews and the sustainable use of resources. The family's sustainability concept includes the use of regional ingredients, but also includes down-to-earthness and the family-like and personal interaction with farmers, customers and everyone who comes and goes in the brewery. The brewery is an integral part of the local community and attaches great importance to the fact that the Schnaittach residents can rely on them and their beer.
