There are beers and breweries that are known all over the world. Guinness is one of these stars among beer makers, as is the Bamberg brewery Schlenkerla with its beer that tastes like smoked ham or the Californian brewing legends of Sierra Nevada. One. The Czech brewery Budějovický Budvar has earned a similarly legendary reputation with its Budweiser. The world-famous lager is drunk on all continents and is probably the best-known beer in the Czech Republic.

Czech brewing art for the world

The brewery was founded more than a century ago in 1895. For Budějovický Budvar it has always been important to honor and maintain its Czech roots. A wave of success internationally forced brewers to grapple with protecting their brand. After much back and forth, it was decided that only the beer brewed in České Budějovice could bear the name “Original Budweiser Budvar”. In this way, the brewery ensures that friends and fans always have exactly the great beer in their glass that was promised to them. After the brewery underwent extensive modernization, it broke the million mark in 1996: Budějovický Budvar brewed one million hectoliters of beer a year, and the trend is rising. In 2013, the brewing system was expanded to include a can filling system, which has since contributed significantly to increasing annual output. The streak of success has not stopped since the brewery's inception and requires expansion and enlargement from time to time. The new storage cellar with two ultra-modern stainless steel tanks was only inaugurated in 2018.

Honest beer from České Budějovice

Everything the Budějovický Budvar brewery does is based on four basic pillars. We have already mentioned the importance of the brewery location: only the beer from České Budějovice can bear this name. The basis of every beer is water. The good Budweiser is made with crystal clear water from the brewery's own well. It comes from an underground body of water that dates back to the Ice Age and produces particularly clear, pure water. In addition to the brewing water, other raw materials also play a role: the brewery sources its ingredients from Czech farmers wherever possible. Regionality in the selection of raw materials not only reduces the ecological footprint, it also supports the local economy and the people of the region. The last step in the production process is particularly important. After all the ingredients have been added to the beer and the brewing process is complete, maturation follows. At Budějovický Budvar there is no hurry: the beer is allowed to mature to its full splendor in the storage tanks in peace and quiet until it is finally bottled.
