After traditional family breweries were threatened with extinction for a long time because there were no offspring, a change took place some time ago: more and more young people are interested in the craft of brewing and are ready to follow in the footsteps of their parents, grandparents and more distant ancestors. In the past, succession was mainly reserved for the sons of a family, but today the daughters are also at the top. One of these motivated and beer-loving women is Lorenza Günther, who runs the Günther-Bräu together with her father.

Beer family through and through

The brewery in Burgkunstadt, Upper Franconia, was founded by two brothers. Johann and Georg Günther had an inn in town and began brewing beer for the pub in the town's communal brewery in 1840. There used to be such communal breweries in many places and residents could register there to brew beer for their own needs or business under the supervision of a master brewer. The next generation of the Günther family then decided that they needed to have their own brewery: demand had steadily increased and they decided to purchase a brewing system and from then on brew beer on their own facility. This decision now dates back four generations. Over the course of this time, the brewery has gone through ups and downs, renewals and modernizations, but the Günthers have retained their values and high quality standards. After a comprehensive renovation in 2005, the company is also focused on sustainability. In addition to production that is as environmentally friendly and resource-saving as possible, regionality is also important to the family. Their raw materials are hand-picked and sourced locally wherever possible. As Franconians, they make full use of everything: the gentle hills of the region are sun-drenched and produce the best grain, the purest water is obtained from the springs and the hop-growing regions of Spalt and Hallertau are right around the corner.

Beer with heart

The beer, which is brewed from the noble ingredients, is subject to the requirements of the Bavarian Purity Law and is therefore made exclusively from hops, malt, yeast and water. Traditional craftsmanship is upheld at Günther: the master brewers draw on the wealth of experience from the centuries-old brewing history of their homeland. The brewery's range consists of a range of classic Franconian beer creations that impress with their character and down-to-earth spirit. You won't find unusual extra ingredients and crazy beer styles here, but Günther Bräu will be happy to pour you an excellently brewed Pilsner or serve its wonderful dark Franconian country beer, which goes perfectly with hearty dishes.

Everyone in the Günther family pitches in. Team spirit and cohesion have top priority and are a wonderful basis for the best beer.
