Kaiserhöfer

Kronach is a small town in Upper Franconia and is currently home to almost 17,000 residents. The gentle hills of the Franconian Forest and the Rosenberg Fortress tower over the picturesque half-timbered houses of the old town and the Haßlach river meanders through it. If you draw a triangle between Bamberg, Bayreuth and Kronach, you mark the area with the highest brewery density in the entire world. Upper Franconia is known for its millennia-old beer culture and, with one brewery per 5,500 inhabitants, is considered the region with the most breweries on the entire planet. One of these countless Upper Franconian breweries is the Kaiserhof Bräu in the heart of Kronach.

Family tradition for more than 145 years

The history of the brewery at Friesener Straße 1 began a little more than 450 years ago. At that time, brewing activity was first mentioned at this address. Beer was made and served in an inn. The ancestors of the current owners came into play at the end of the 19th century, when master brewer Bruno Kaiser bought the property in 1879 and started brewing operations that same year. The scepter was passed from family member to family member and at the same time the brewery grew and prospered. An ice cellar was dug, a brewery and a Sudan location were added, a new brewhouse was built, the technology was brought up to date, renovated and modernized. At the same time, the Kaiser family refined the recipes passed down from generation to generation and developed an excellent quality standard. Progress still reigns today and continues to bring new projects to light, such as the brewery's own hop garden. Kaiserhöfer has been growing hops for its own needs since 2012 and celebrates the harvest with a ceremony every autumn. The brewery takes part in all events in the city and contributes to a lively culture in and around Kronach.

Individual barrel maturation

The range consists of just over a dozen handcrafted beer specialties that originate from the Franconian brewing tradition. With attention to detail, hard work and regional raw materials, the team produces a solid selection of the finest beers. In addition to the core range, the Kaiserhöfer brewery also offers seasonal brews such as Easter beer and barrel-aged brews. The fermentation cellar is lined with fine oak barrels that are used to mature selected beers and give the creations a wonderful flavor. The special thing, however, is that customers can choose which beers they would like to have stored in the barrel. You can rent one of the barrels with a capacity of 10 or 20 liters and let your very own specialty mature in it.

It is traditions like these that keep the Franconian beer culture alive and make this region a destination for beer fans from all over the world.
