Kronach is a small town in Upper Franconia and is currently home to just under 17,000 residents. The rolling hills of the Franconian Forest and the Rosenberg Fortress tower over the picturesque half-timbered houses of the old town and the Haßlach river meanders through. If you draw a triangle between Bamberg, Bayreuth and Kronach, you mark the area with the highest brewery density in the world. Upper Franconia is known for its millennia-old beer culture and, with one brewery per 5,500 residents, is considered the region with the most breweries on the entire planet. One of these countless Upper Franconian breweries is the Kaiserhof Bräu in the heart of Kronach.
The history of the brewery at Friesener Strasse 1 began just over 450 years ago. At that time, brewing at this address was first mentioned in documents. Beer was produced and served in an inn. The ancestors of the current owners came into play at the end of the 19th century, when master brewer Bruno Kaiser bought the property in 1879 and started brewing in the same year. The scepter was passed from family member to family member and the brewery grew and prospered in parallel. An ice cellar was dug, a brewery and brewing plant were added, a new brewhouse was built, the technology was brought up to date, renovated and modernized. At the same time, the Kaiser family refined the recipes passed down from generation to generation and developed an excellent quality standard. Progress reigns to this day and is constantly bringing new projects to light, such as the brewery's own hop garden. Since 2012, Kaiserhöfer has been growing hops for its own use and celebrates the harvest every autumn with a ceremony. The brewery takes part in all of the city's events and makes its contribution to a lively culture in and around Kronach.
The range consists of just over a dozen hand-crafted beer specialties that originate from the Franconian brewing tradition. With attention to detail, hard work and regional raw materials, the team produces a solid selection of the finest beers. In addition to the core range, the Kaiserhöfer brewery also offers seasonal brews such as Easter beer and barrel-aged brews. In the fermentation cellar, there are rows of fine oak barrels that are used to mature selected beers and give the creations a wonderful flavor. What's special, however, is that customers can choose for themselves which beers they would like to have stored in the barrel. You can rent one of the barrels with a capacity of 10 or 20 liters and let your very own specialty mature in it.
It is traditions like these that keep Franconian beer culture alive and make this region a destination for beer fans from all over the world.
