With the name Pau Hana Beer, a small Franconian brewery deliberately sets itself apart from the usual regional dialect: Pau Hana comes from Hawaiian and means something like "after work" – the wonderful time when you relax with friends, leave the day behind, and unwind. This rather unusual name for a Franconian brewery perfectly captures the feeling that founders Bastian and Isabella want to incorporate into their creations – a blend of traditional brewing craftsmanship and the carefree joie de vivre of Hawaii.
Pau Hana Bier isn't a large, traditional company with centuries-old roots, but a young, creative project founded in 2019 in a small vineyard near Aurach in Middle Franconia. Behind the microbrewery are Bastian, a brewer, event organizer, and passionate IPA enthusiast, and Isabella, the boss, founder, beer sommelier, marketing genius, designer, and hostess. The brewery's story began like so many classic craft beer legends – from the first brewing experiments in their own kitchen to a 2-hectoliter brewhouse in just a few years. Their fascination with the American craft beer scene and Hawaii is reflected not only in the name but in the brewery's entire philosophy. Sustainability, regional value creation, and the use of high-quality raw materials are central values for the small team. Pau Hana now offers not only brewing but also brewing seminars and guided beer tastings in its own taproom, inviting visitors to learn more about the variety of handmade specialties.
Pau Hana's range includes a selection of handcrafted craft beers and classic brews, offering both traditional Franconian styles and modern interpretations. A firm favorite is the Pau Hana Original Helles Lager – a smooth, light-colored beer brewed with Tettnang aroma hops and Franconian malts, boasting delicate citrus and grassy notes. The microbrewery also produces various craft beers in small batches, including a Franconia High IPA, a fruity and hoppy India Pale Ale, and the 1851 Pale Ale, a Black IPA with complex roasted aromas and a balanced bitterness. The brewery embraces diversity in both flavor and brewing style: classic lagers meet modern, aromatic craft beer interpretations – always crafted in small, lovingly managed batches.
Pau Hana beer combines Franconian brewing tradition with creative elements and invites connoisseurs to experience both classic and unusual taste sensations.
