Beer&History: The path to "Hellen"!
The Helles beer style – the perfect symbiosis of malt and hops – is definitely the most widely consumed beer style in the world today. But less than 150 years ago, it was unthinkable to brew, let alone drink, a Helles beer as it is today. Crazy, right?
How did the worldwide success of Helles beer come about? What is a Helles beer anyway? Why was it impossible to brew a Helles beer for centuries?
We will address all of these questions in the latest issue of Beer&History and embark on a historical journey with some milestone beers.
In total, we will taste six beers on the way to the world's first Helles - which will of course also be part of the seminar.
The beers all have a crucial meaning or a historical background and taste.
