Beer & History: The Path to "Light" Beer!
The Helles beer style – the perfect symbiosis of malt and hops – is undoubtedly the most widely consumed beer style in the world today. Yet, less than 150 years ago, brewing or even drinking a Helles as we know it today was unthinkable. Crazy, right?
How did Helles beer become a worldwide success? What exactly is a Helles? Why was it impossible to brew a Helles for centuries?
We will address all these questions in the latest issue of Beer&History and embark on a historical journey with some milestone beers.
In total, we will taste six beers on our way to the world's first Helles beer - which will of course also be part of the seminar.
The beers each have a crucial significance, historical background, or taste.
