Arcobräu

Germany is home to some of the oldest breweries in the world, some of which have a history spanning centuries and have had to endure countless upheavals. They have had to overcome shortages of raw materials, two world wars, fires and all sorts of other challenges to survive to the present day. One of these venerable institutions is the Arcobräu from the Bavarian village of Moos.

A thoroughly noble affair

The turbulent history of the brewery begins with the first documented mention in 1567. At that time, Johann Albrecht von Preysing took over the castle brewery from his father-in-law Stephan Trainer. He managed the brewery until 1619, when the first major stroke of fate occurred. The entire brewery and the adjacent castle were destroyed by fire. A descendant of Johann initiated the reconstruction. It took 17 years until the castle complex was completely restored. At the end of the 18th century, two local breweries were merged. The building was located on the same site as the current brewery. In 1826, the first wheat beer was brewed in Moos and modern technology was gradually introduced. In a long line of Counts von Preysing, Maria Theresia Countess von und zu Arco-Zinneberg became the first woman to head the brewery in 1940. Their descendants continue to manage the Arcobräu to this day: the current owner is Count Riprand von und zu Arco-Zinneberg.

Good beer, good people

The small castle brewery has now grown into a large company, which the count manages with responsibility and passion. It is important to the entire workforce to honour the long-standing roots and tradition. However, they are not averse to progress: at Arcobräu, time-honoured craftsmanship meets the latest technology and contemporary concepts. The beer reflects this philosophy wonderfully and is a down-to-earth collection of classic styles, produced with passion and an eye for quality and taste. As a private brewery, Arcobräu has full control over the raw materials and chooses regional products when purchasing grain and hops. The water is drawn from the brewery's own deep well and the yeast comes from its own breeding. The brewery treats its fellow human beings, its homeland and the environment with respect and consideration - and has done so for more than 450 years! In addition to the finest beer, the brewery feels a duty to its homeland and, with its creations and tireless commitment, makes a valuable contribution to the lively social life in and around Moos.
