Bolten

Our register of almost 500 breweries includes some breweries that have accumulated several centuries of brewing experience. Traditional breweries from all corners of the world offer their specialties under our roof and provide you with beer that is based on an incredible wealth of knowledge and expertise. One of these breweries is Bolten from Korschenbroich in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Small brewery, big tradition

According to sources within the brewery, the history of Bolten begins in 1266, when a master brewer named Heinrich was granted the right to brew. He lived and brewed at the Kraushof in Korschenbroich and laid the foundation for more than 750 years of brewery history. The brewery got its name in 1753 when Peter Bolten first leased the property and then finally bought it. Seven generations of the Bolten family followed until the decision was made in 2005 to hand the company over to other hands. Altbier has always been the brewery's specialty. Because people in the north mainly drank Pilsner in the 90s and 2000s, demand stalled somewhat and the brewery was unable to raise the financial resources for the necessary modernizations. Michael Hollmann brought a breath of fresh air into the dusty halls and when a second partner, Paul Bösken-Diebels, joined in, the brewery was able to be brought up to date with the latest technology. Both Michael and Paul have a background in the beer business and were the saviors the struggling brewery needed at the time of sale.

With quality and taste from the Middle Ages into the future

At Bolten there are two foundations that have guided the company through difficult times, wars, unrest, changes of ownership and barren years: quality and taste. Over the centuries, the brewery has developed a high standard of quality that is not only maintained, but continually exceeded. Hand-picked raw materials from the region, state-of-the-art brewing technology and traditional brewing craft support these standards and ensure that the beer tastes good. The core of all work, all effort and all passion is the taste - as long as the beer tastes good, everything is good. Korschenbroich is the home of the brewery, which makes it a real country brewery. “Fresh from the country” is the straightforward motto that the brewers carry in their hearts every day when they brew the finest beer for the region and beyond. You won't find any crazy ingredients, pompous titles and newfangled bells and whistles here. The Bolten private brewery has been about honest, handcrafted beer with good taste - and has been for more than 750 years. Nothing more, nothing less.
