Brauhaus Höchstadt

The tradition of communal breweries goes back centuries. In the past, most places had a community-run brewery that residents could use to brew beer. A trained master brewer was always present to help laypeople brew. Both private individuals and landlords and restaurant operators took advantage of this opportunity to cover their beer needs. The rush to the communal breweries was correspondingly high. In Höchstadt an der Aisch, the community brewery was so overloaded that seven local innkeepers decided to take matters into their own hands.

A community project

The Höchstadt innkeepers were tired of sharing their brewing capacity with private individuals and all sorts of others, so they joined forces and leased the brewhouse of the former Dresel brewery in 1926. They re-equipped the aging facility and got started shortly afterwards. Beer production went so well that just a few years later the small brewery was bursting at the seams and they had to look for another location. In 1936 the community purchased property and built a brand new brewery. After the Second World War was over and left no damage, the brewery was immediately modernized and expanded again. To date, a few buildings and all sorts of technical help have been added. Despite the leap into modern times, the brewery in Höchstadt an der Aisch has retained some traditions. This includes, for example, home brewing. According to an old custom, the citizens of the city can bring their own barrel to the brewery and it will be filled with young, unaged beer. You can then let the brew mature to your taste at home in your own cellar. Many breweries used to offer this service, but today only a few remain.

A heart for Höchststadt

The Höchstadter brewery's range is a hodgepodge of traditional Franconian brews. All creations are based on years of brewing experience and tried-and-tested recipes. The water for the beer comes from the brewery's own well and the hops and malt also come from the region: the brewery gets its green gold from Spalt and the grain for the brewing malt grows on Franconian soil. These exquisite raw materials are made into the finest beer according to the strict specifications of the Bavarian Purity Law. In addition to the quality of its products, the brewery also cares about its commitment to social and cultural causes. The team supports regional festivals, clubs and events and is an active part of life in and around Höchstadt.
