The Bierothek® team wishes you a Happy New Year!
Table Mountain in South Africa is on the bucket lists of countless people and is one of the most visited attractions in the country. Every year, thousands of visitors climb the mountain on one of the scenic hiking trails or by cable car and enjoy the panoramic view from the majestic summit. When the "tablecloth" of clouds is not covering the massif, you can see both Lion's Head and Devil's Peak from Cape Town. The latter rises more than 1000 meters above the land and is the highest point on Table Mountain.
There are numerous myths and legends surrounding Devil's Peak. One of them revolves around the special name of the peak: According to a popular story, the notorious pirate van Hunks lived on the mountain. After he had earned a reputation on his raids, the pirate looked for a place to retreat and chose the highest point of Table Mountain. In his seclusion, a stranger approached him one day and challenged him to a smoking contest. The contest lasted several days, but the pirate ultimately won. The stranger had to reveal his identity and introduced himself as the devil himself. Lucifer turned out to be a bad loser and not only dissolved himself into smoke, but also van Hunks. To this day, the two haunt Table Mountain and move over the ridge in the form of a massive blanket of clouds.
The Devil's Peak brewery is named after this magnificent landmark of the country. The team of South African brewers has set itself the goal of taking beer enjoyment to the extreme and enriching their country with a range of tasty, modern and hand-crafted beers. In recent years, beer consumption in South Africa has developed from the enjoyment of mass-produced beers to a more refined palate: shallow lagers and flat ales are no longer enough, beer fans long for aromatic, sophisticated beers. This is where Devil's Peak comes in. The motivated brewers meet the increased demands of their compatriots with imaginative craft beers, exciting beer styles and fresh ideas. In addition to subtly balanced premium beers, their range includes non-alcoholic variants and hop-focused specialty beers. As part of the Afrofunk project series, the brewers let off steam to their heart's content and indulge their passion for experimentation. The corresponding beers are bold, loud and intense.
